Rainbow Falls is a beautiful waterfall located in the Little River Canyon National Preserve near Fort Payne, Alabama. The falls are situated along the Little River and span around 100 feet wide as it cascades down into a deep pool below.

The stunning rainbow effect of Rainbow Falls is created by sunlight reflecting off of the mica-rich quartzite rocks that make up much of the riverbed. This phenomenon has made this particular waterfall one of Alabama’s most popular tourist attractions, with visitors coming from all over to take in its beauty.

Visitors can reach Rainbow Falls by taking a short hike downhill from U.S Highway 11, which runs alongside Little River Canyon National Preserve. The path takes you through some incredible scenery including lush forests and towering rock formations before finally leading you to your destination – the breathtaking view at Rainbow Falls! Once there, hikers can explore this natural wonder further by following trails downstream or heading upstream for an even more spectacular view from above.

For those looking for something a little less strenuous, there are plenty of benches and picnic areas nearby where you can relax and take in all that nature has to offer at this unique location!

Directions to Rainbow Falls, Alabama

Located near Fort Payne, the waterfall is nestled in Little River Canyon National Preserve and can be reached by taking Highway 35 north
from Fort Payne for 6 miles. Once you reach the entrance to Little River Canyon National Preserve, take a left onto County Road 89 and drive for about 4 miles until you see the signs for Rainbow Falls Picnic Area. Turn left into this area and drive past the picnic tables until you reach the parking lot at the end of road where there are several trails leading down to Rainbow Falls.

The hike down to Rainbow Falls is moderately difficult with some steep sections but it’s well worth it once you get there! The falls themselves are around 40 feet high and during certain times of year they create an incredible rainbow effect when sunlight hits them – hence their name! Enjoy your time here exploring this beautiful natural wonder before heading back up or continuing on one of many other nearby hikes.
