Evans Plunge Mineral Springs is a historic swimming pool located in Hot Springs, South Dakota. The plunge was built by William Evans in 1890 and has been operating continuously since then. It is the oldest operating mineral springs pool in the United States.

The plunge itself consists of two large pools, one indoor and one outdoors, that are filled with naturally heated mineral water from nearby hot springs. The temperature of the water ranges between 85-105°F (29-41°C), depending on time of year and other factors. The indoor pool also features a Jacuzzi area for relaxation after your swim or soak in the warm waters.
The outdoor pool area at Evans Plunge features a diving board, slides, fountains, showers and more! There’s even an old-fashioned slide made out of wood that you can climb up to reach the top platform before sliding down into the cool waters below!

After a relaxing day, there are several options in the area for those who’d like to camp under the stars.
Deer Haven Campground near Evans Plunge Mineral Springs features 30 campsites with electrical hookups that can accommodate tents or RVs up to 65 feet in length. The park also has a dump station available on site for RVers who need it. This family-friendly campground is open year-round and located near some of the area’s best attractions including Wind Cave National Park.
Elk Mountain Campground is situated just outside Hot Springs State Park but still within easy reach by car or bike from downtown Hot Springs. It offers 40 campsites with electric hookups that are suitable for both tents and RVs up to 35 feet in length as well as one group site that can accommodate up to 50 people at once. Amenities include restrooms with hot showers, water spigots throughout the campground, picnic tables, and fire rings at each site.

From Rapid City: (Map) Head south on I-90 W for about 68 miles. Take Exit 129 to merge onto US-18 E/US-385 S toward Hot Springs. Turn left onto S Boulevard and Evans Plunge Mineral Springs will be on the right side of the road after 0.6 miles.
From Custer (Map) : Head east on US-16A E for approximately 45 miles until you reach a stoplight in Pringle that has a sign pointing towards Hot Springs (follow it). Continue straight onto SD 79 N for 18 miles until you reach Hot Springs. Turn left onto S Boulevard and Evans Plunge Mineral Spring will be on the right side of the road after 0.6 miles
