Daphne, Alabama is close to some of the most scenic hiking trails in the state. From short strolls along city paths to more challenging treks through forests and wetlands, there’s a little something for everyone. Here are a few of our favorite places to go near Daphne for a day of exploration.
Gulf State Park
The park offers more than 25 miles of trails that traverse through pine forests, wetlands and marshes, as well as along the shoreline.
- The Hugh S Branyon Backcountry Trail is one of the most popular trails at Gulf State Park. This 6-mile trail takes visitors through several distinct ecosystems including pines forests and salt marshes overlooking Mobile Bay. Along the way visitors can observe various species such as gophers, tortoises, and bald eagles in their natural habitat.
- Pine Beach Nature Trail – This 1-mile loop winds around large shade trees providing much needed relief during hot summer days. Enjoy a walk across Lakefront Boardwalk which provides excellent views over Lake Shelby.
- Perdido Point Interpretive Trail which follows along an old railroad line with interpretive signs describing local flora & fauna.

Eastern Shore Trail
The Eastern Shore Trail is a paved, multi-use trail that runs along the eastern shore of Mobile Bay in Alabama. This scenic 9-mile route begins at the intersection of US Highway 98 and State Route 181 near Spanish Fort and travels south to Blakeley State Park near Daphne. The trail offers breathtaking views of Mobile Bay’s marshes, wetlands, forests, and estuaries as it winds its way through several small towns including Fairhope and Point Clear.
The Eastern Shore Trail is an ideal destination for cyclists looking for a leisurely ride. The flat terrain makes it great for beginners while experienced riders can find plenty of hills to test their endurance levels. There are also several boardwalks, bridges, swimming and fishing areas, and picnic areas to enjoy.

Meaher State Park
Meaher State Park is a beautiful and secluded park located on the shores of Mobile Bay in Spanish Fort, Alabama. This park offers visitors plenty of opportunities to explore its nature trails, which offer stunning views of the bay and nearby wetlands. The trails range from easy to moderate difficulty and are suitable for all ages.
The most popular trail at Meaher State Park is the 1-mile interpretive loop that winds through wooded areas and alongside the waterfront. Along this route, hikers can observe wildlife such as deer, waterfowl, turtles, snakes and even an occasional alligator! There are also several observation decks overlooking Mobile Bay for birdwatching or just taking in the view.
Other trails include a 3-mile multi-use path perfect for biking or running, two shorter hiking paths, one longer 5-mile loop offering some elevation changes, and lastly a flat 2-mile boardwalk with great views of small islands in Mobile Bay.
